Mike Richards will no longer serve as an executive producer of "Jeopardy!" and "Wheel of Fortune," according to a statement from Sony executive Suzanne Prete.

Driving the news: The departure comes less than two weeks after Richards stepped down from his position as the new host of "Jeopardy!" over offensive comments he made in 2013 and 2014.

  • The controversy stemmed from offensive language Richards directed toward women's bodies and people of short stature.
  • Richards and actress Mayim Bialik were named as co-hosts of "Jeopardy!" earlier this month following the passing of Alex Trebek, who hosted the iconic program for 37 seasons.

What they're saying: "We had hoped that when Mike stepped down from the host position at Jeopardy! it would have minimized the disruption and internal difficulty we have all experienced these last few weeks," Prete said in a note to staff.

  • "That clearly has not happened," she added.
