Dow ends lower in another dramatic comeback, as Wall Street’s volatile January continues

Wall Street’s turbulent start to 2022 dragged onward Tuesday, as stocks whipsawed and investors remained restless about the Fed and corporate earnings.

The Dow Jones industrial average closed at 34,297.73, down 67.77 points, or 0.2 percent, after staging another monstrous comeback, at one point surging almost 1,000 points above its midmorning low. The broader S&P 500 index closed at 4,356.45, down 53.68 points, or 1.2 percent. And the technology-rich Nasdaq lost 315.83 points, or 2.3 percent, to end at 13,539.29.
